Semicon India 2026: 25 Major Announcements and Agreements to Boost India's Semiconductor Ecosystem
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that India is becoming a hub for global investment in semiconductors, with 25 critical agreements signed across chip design, manufacturing, and supply chains.
On the second day of 'Semicon India 2026' held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, 25 major announcements and strategic agreements were made to strengthen India's semiconductor value chain. These agreements cover critical sectors including semiconductor manufacturing, materials, logistics, chip design, advanced packaging, power electronics, and workforce development.
Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated on the occasion that India's semiconductor ecosystem is becoming a center of attraction for global partnerships and investment. He noted that industry leaders have expressed a desire to increase investments according to the capacity of their projects. He further highlighted that the participation of countries such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden reflects the global interest in the expansion of this sector in India.
To strengthen the supply chain, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and Nippon Express Holdings, under which expertise in logistics, warehousing, and customs will be provided. Additionally, emphasizing sustainable technology, the Minister highlighted the importance of water recycling in semiconductor fabs and closed-loop cooling systems in data centers.
During the event, India's first indigenous System-on-Module (SoM), “ISC-VEGA-SOM,” was launched. It was developed under the Industry Support Centre initiative of C-DAC, integrating C-DAC's VEGA Thejas32 processor with IndieSemiC's LoRa RF module.
Among the key partnerships, Tata Electronics has collaborated with Inox Air Products, Sumitomo Chemical, Kellington Engineering, and Anomotoko Company to enhance local supply chain and packaging capabilities. Simultaneously, L&T Semiconductor Technologies has teamed up with Virtual Forest, Neven Systems, Fimer India, and Capital Power Systems for the development of power electronics and AI data center solutions.
In the field of skill development, SEMI and the India Deep Tech Alliance (IDTA) have decided to jointly develop the 'India Semiconductor Academy' (ISA). Furthermore, NIELIT signed agreements with Siemens EDA, Tata Electronics, Singapore Polytechnic International, and SEMI University to strengthen training and design education.
More than 600 companies are participating in Semicon India 2026, with representatives from 52 countries in attendance. The exhibition features pavilions from various countries and states, as well as startup and innovation showcases.
