Indian Railways Announces New Rail Line Between Mukutban and Gadchandur with ₹493 Crore Approval
A new 38.21 km rail line between Mukutban and Gadchandur in the South Central Railway has been approved to enhance connectivity for industrial and mining sectors.
Indian Railways has taken a significant decision to strengthen regional rail connectivity and make the movement of passengers and goods more efficient. A cost of ₹493 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a new 38.21 km long rail line between Mukutban (Adilabad) and Gadchandur under the South Central Railway.
The primary objective of this project is to connect important industrial and mining centers such as Mukutban in Yavatmal district and Gadchandur in Chandrapur district. These areas are major hubs for several cement plants, Western Coalfields Limited coal mines, and limestone quarries. The construction of the new line will strengthen the rail connectivity of these industrial clusters and make the freight transport process more efficient.
This new rail line will reduce travel distance, time, and transportation costs. It will provide an alternative route to reduce congestion on the Wardha-Manikgarh section, ensuring the smooth operation of freight transport. According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the line is expected to operate two MEMU trains in each direction daily and manage 6.08 metric tonnes of freight traffic per year. The goods transported will primarily include coal, coke, cement, sponge iron, metal scrap, iron, steel, fertilizers, and food grains.
The new line will ensure direct connectivity between the coal and cement clusters and the Majri-Nanded route. As a result, the time required to transport goods to Jalna, Parbhani, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and other destinations in Maharashtra and Karnataka will be reduced.
Additionally, this project will decrease dependency on the congested Balharshah-Nagpur High-Density Network (HDN) route. Rail connectivity will improve in areas of Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts that are currently underserved. This will increase the capacity of the regional railway network and provide a new impetus to the industrial and economic development of the region.
