Skills4Future EV and Green Skills Lab Inaugurated at NSTI Bengaluru to Provide Modern Training for Youth
Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, inaugurated the EV and Green Skills Lab in Bengaluru to equip youth with expertise in electric vehicles and green technology.
With the objective of strengthening India's green skilling ecosystem, Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, IAS and Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), inaugurated the 'Skills4Future' EV and Green Skills Lab at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Bengaluru. This lab is a collaborative initiative between Shell India, the Directorate General of Training (DGT), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), and the Edunet Foundation.
The primary goal of this lab is to provide youth with skills tailored to future requirements in the fields of electric vehicles (EV) and green technology. During the inauguration, the Secretary engaged in discussions with students, instructors, and industry representatives, and reviewed the practical learning modules and infrastructure based on EV technology. The facility is designed to provide learners with hands-on experience in electric vehicle systems, battery technologies, diagnostics, safety standards, and other emerging green technologies to enhance their employability in sustainable mobility and clean energy sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, IAS, stated that collaboration between industry and government is critical in preparing the workforce for future jobs. She emphasized that programs like 'Skills4Future' prepare youth for opportunities available in green mobility, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies, thereby supporting India's vision of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Regarding the outcomes of the Skills4Future program to date, it was reported that the initiative has reached over 290 institutions across five states. Through this program, more than 70,000 learners have been trained, over 258 faculty members have had their skills enhanced, and 20 Green Skills EV labs have been established. In the state of Karnataka alone, the program has impacted 101 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and trained 9,113 students.
This initiative is part of the Government of India's vision to create a skilled workforce to lead the country toward green mobility and sustainable development. Efforts are being made to bridge the skill gap by integrating industry-relevant curricula with practical learning infrastructure.
