Manipur: Nursing Professional Reclaims Life and Career with Help from De-addiction Center
A nursing professional from Manipur overcame drug addiction and returned to her career after receiving treatment at the Sneha Bhavan center under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction.

Leena (name changed), a 37-year-old nursing professional from Imphal West, Manipur, has successfully overcome drug addiction with the assistance of 'Sneha Bhavan,' a de-addiction center supported under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction. Having been drug-free since 2024, Leena has now resumed her professional career as a nursing lecturer.
The crisis in Leena's life began following a separation from her husband, which led to severe emotional distress, loneliness, and despair. To cope with this stress, she gradually began relying on narcotics. Despite holding an MSc degree in nursing, addiction severely impacted her mental health, family and social relationships, self-confidence, and financial stability. During this period, she was hospitalized twice, yet she maintained a strong desire to rebuild her life.
On May 9, 2024, Leena sought treatment and rehabilitation support at Sneha Bhavan in Imphal West. There, she received assistance through medical care, health monitoring, individual and group therapy, psychosocial support, life skills education, and activities designed to boost self-confidence. Additionally, family counseling and vocational guidance helped her recover from emotional trauma and commit to long-term rehabilitation.
The structured environment and professional care resulted in positive behavioral changes for Leena, allowing her to achieve emotional stability. Following her treatment, she returned to work, which restored her regular income and provided her with financial independence.
Sharing her experience, Ms. Leena stated that the de-addiction program helped her recover from addiction, regain her self-confidence, and restart her professional life with dignity. The services supported by the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) at Sneha Bhavan have enabled her to mend her relationships and move forward using her education and skills.
