KVIC Launches 'Sewa Sankalp Khadi Mahotsav-2026', Distributes ₹289 Crore in Subsidies

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), operating under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of the Government of India, inaugurated the 'Sewa Sankalp Khadi Mahotsav 2026' at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat, to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This festival will be celebrated across the nation with public participation from September 17 to October 17, 2026. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest and Chairman of KVIC, Mr. Manoj Goyal, in the presence of several dignitaries, artisans, and beneficiaries, including former Mayor of Delhi, Mr. Jai Prakash.

Speaking on the occasion, KVIC Chairman Mr. Manoj Goyal stated that this festival is inspired by the principles of service, good governance, and public participation that have defined the 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public life. The objective of the Mahotsav is to propagate the message of Khadi, Swadeshi, employment, and self-reliance. Mr. Goyal noted that under the Prime Minister's leadership, campaigns such as 'Vocal for Local', 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', and 'Local to Global' have provided a new identity to rural entrepreneurship.

During the event, financial assistance and equipment were distributed. Margin money subsidies worth ₹289 crore were provided to 3,366 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). This will lead to the launch of 3,366 new projects across the country, for which bank loans totaling approximately ₹873 crore have been sanctioned. It is estimated that these projects will create employment opportunities for about 37,026 people. Additionally, 5,000 new PMEGP units were launched online, and machines and toolkits were distributed to artisans from Delhi and the Northeast.

Towards digital empowerment, KVIC has introduced five new digital initiatives: an e-commerce portal, the PMEGP Online EDP portal, the PMEGP Online EDP mobile app, the Hindi Vaibhav portal, and KVIC Digital 2.0. Furthermore, 760 individual and group workshops, along with new stores, were inaugurated online across the country.

As part of the Mahotsav, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, Khadi Yatras, awareness programs, and training sessions will be organized nationwide until October 17. This event has also been linked to the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' campaign, themed 'Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India'.

Providing statistical insights, Mr. Manoj Goyal mentioned that the turnover of the Khadi and Village Industries sector exceeded ₹1.87 lakh crore in the 2025-26 financial year, providing employment to more than 2.04 crore people. He expressed confidence that the turnover will reach the target of ₹2.51 lakh crore in the coming years.
